YOUR ACTION REQUESTED TO STOP MT ST HELENS FROM BECOMING A NATIONAL PARK

Published on 11/30/2007

Greetings Snoflyer Submitters!

I apologize for sending a non-Snoflyer related item, but I think the importance and timeliness of the issue makes for a reasonable reason.

I posted the blurb below on the WSSA website this morning and I'm asking you to pass this info on to as many people you know who might be interested.  Of primary importance is participating in the survey at http://www.tdn.com.  While surveys like this won't make or break an effort to turn Mt St Helens into a National Park, the winners will certainly use the results to their advantage.

YOUR ACTION REQUESTED TO STOP MT ST HELENS FROM BECOMING A NATIONAL PARK (Nov '07) - Even though the Cowlitz County Commissioners have rescinded their support for turning Mt St Helens into a National Park, the media, (likely goaded by environmental groups and other misguided souls), keeps bringing this issue to the forefront with articles appearing in the Olympian, Seattle Times and Seattle Post Intelligencer.  Senators Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell and Representative Brian Baird have promised to form an exploratory committee to determine if National Park Status should be sought.

National Park status is bad for Mt St Helens from an access and recreation perspective.  Based on current National Park management practices, snowmobiling and hunting would be severely restricted, or most likely, be eliminated.  Consider your snowmobiling opportunities at Mt Rainer and Yellowstone National Park... do you want this at Mt St Helens?

What can you do to help?  Two quick and easy things.  First, follow this link http://www.tdn.com to The Daily News Online and vote in the poll asking "Should Mt St Helens become a National Park?"

Second, please send a quick note to Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and Representative Brian Baird.  (Clicking on their names above will take you to their individual e-mail forms.)  Let them know if you support National Park status and the restrictions that will accompany it.
